Brought my husband here for his birthday, our first visit to Frankie Rowland’s. We’ve frequented many a la carte steak houses. This is not worth the money. Usually when you tell the restaurant that it’s a birthday, you don’t have to tell them again when you arrive. The side of mushrooms did not look appealing I come to Roanoke for a meeting once a year and have been regaled by the recommendations for this restaurant. I was looking forward to a wonderful steak.

I actually ordered the prime rib medium. When it arrived it was totally rare to the point of being cool to my tongue. I did send it back to the kitchen and when it was returned it was somewhat better but not much, there were also pieces that were too «chewy» to eat and difficult to cut.

The creamed spinach was excellent. The wait staff were efficient, pleasant and interactive. The atmosphere was also excellent. I am not sure if I will return. Made a reservation for four on Valentines Day and reserved four 2. When we arrived, we were pleasantly greeted and seated in the main room. This room was exactly what one would expect from an upscale restaurant; waiters and waitresses all around, floral arrangements, china and silver-plate in abundance. The room was very romantic and done to the nines!

My Caesar Salad was average but not as good as I expected. The meat was very carefully sculpted out of the shell and placed neatly on my plate for me by the kitchen staff.

This was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, on the lobster taste scale, my lobster was an 8 on a scale of I also had a side of creamer spinach which was delicious. I ordered two glasses of Pinot Grigio.

We had Bananas Foster for desert. It was delicious and presented very nicely. I guess if you are rich this is no problem I have resisted this restaurant for many years but finally gave in for a special occasion. The filet and lobster was a very good plate although we had to send the steak back as it was rare instead of medium. It took quite a while before it was returned to the table. The ribeye was the big disappointment. Tough with gristle, I gave up sawing through at the half way point.

Management came over to apologize and removed just that dish from the. I really feel something more was order, gift certificate, etc to bring us back for another try. One bad meal out of two really makes a disappointing experience for all. The drinks and sides were good. Great steakhouse. Like many steakhouses it was a ‘la carte, but reasonable choices were available. Own or manage this property?
